Well hello again from artwaveradio! We’re all getting seriously excited here about the forthcoming Athens Bienniale and its made us pull out all the stops to give you our most amazing and eclectic schedule yet. This month we have one playlist which is repeated daily for the whole of September, so you have no excuses for missing a thing! In addition to our own broadcasts we are hosting projects from the Ctrl_Alt_Del Festival in Istanbul between 9 -16th of September featuring Chabel Haber, Frontierlab, Paul Devens, & the Solar Duo Project. In return they are broadcasting our ‘Sound Viewing’ piece. So lets take a look at the programme :
In support of the Istanbul festival we feature the work of Batur Sonmez whose experimental music comes out under the banner “Atom Music – Atom Media” and showcases his DADA influenced audio work that proved a hit on his European tour earlier this year.
We are hosting four sound pieces from Jan Hendrik Brueggermeier that stretch the possibilities of sound collage using material from Lebanese radio, fragments of found telephone conversations and synthesised sound.
Moving further east we have a collaborative piece from Japanese artist Erika Matsunami and Greek improvised piano and synthesiser prodigy Antonis Anissegos that combines their considerable talents into a new form of sound.
As well as sound projects we play two separate interviews with Greek artists Georgia Sagri and Vasilis Karouk who choose their ten favourite tracks for us to hear and talk about their participation in Destroy Athens.
We move into a new area with Jenni Meredith whose ‘wordsart’ work with her own robot choir mixes electro-acoustic performance with African drumming…it has to be heard to be believed!
From Kimberley Marrero and Ron Rocco we hear reflections on three of Germany’s biggest shows this year.
Also this month we have more astounding investigations into the relationship between colour and sound from The Movimento Sinestetico.
We have a feature on the Greek artist Kostis Velonis whose individual style is influenced by his studies in Architecture and a distinctive approach to building materials.
Artwave radio will also be talking to independent curator Marina Fokides whose lastest show ‘Her(His)tory’ is taking place at the Museum of Cycladic Art.
We will also be talking to Loraine Alimantiri the founder of ‘Gazon Rouge’ & the Gallerist in charge of a new venture in Keramikos.
…And finally we have more deconsrtuctive dee-jaying from Carlos Slazenger - artwaveradios resident Outsider & bizarre music collector, who entertains and baffles with his holiday special show featuring music from Chic, Slim Galliard & the Fall, and who teases us with obnoxious punk & garage rock when he invites Caveman Joe into his studio.
Also watch this space to see how you can download programmes from our schedule as we set up a permanent archive for your pleasure and entertainment.
